Daily Tips to Have Strong Immune System Ready for Anything

If there is one thing that the last year and a half has taught us, it is that immune resilience is everything. Before the recent times, you may have focused on your immune health only if you felt under the weather or defied the allergy season. Now? Daily immune support is a priority for many – keeping their immune system sharpened and ready for what so ever comes.

“If your immune system doesn’t have the daily tools it needs, it’s not ready for lawbreaker, regardless of their form,” says Ashley Jordan Ferira, director of scientific affairs at mbg, Ph.D., RDN, in this episode of the podcast mindbodygreen. This begs the question: how can you make sure your immune system is ready and ready?

The answer, you see, is not so cut and dried—the body of each, after all, has different needs. However, according to Ferira, everyone can benefit from some balanced practices. Below she offers you her best tips for strengthening your natural defenses:*

1. Wash your hands.

It is safe to say that we have all improved our hand wash routines in the last year and a half. According to Ferira, we should get used to it:” we will not forget this, ” she notes. Wash your hands vigorously for at least 15 to 20 seconds, especially before eating or touching your face-a perhaps obvious tip to keep germs out, but still a useful reminder.

2. Eat the rainbow.

That’s something we’ve discussed over and over again: the more colors on your plate, the more antioxidants you’re likely to consume. (Even superior, opt for deeply colored fruits and vegetables, as research shows that these can have more concentrated antioxidants.)

Foods rich in antioxidants are important for an immune-supporting diet: “Imagine that [your immune cells] are action for you,” says Ferira. “In these action, they cause a lot of damage from free radicals. Well, we need antioxidants to clean it so that the front can continue its hard work.”

She recommends stocking up with colorful whole fruits and vegetables. “A plant-rich and colorful diet is loaded with antioxidants,” she adds.

3. Get your Omega-3.

According to Ferira, it’s time to give omega-3 fatty acids the credit they deserve. “They are absolutely a nutrient, and that’s a big gap,” she says. “More than 95% of Americans do not get two servings of fatty fish rich in EPA and DHA—these wonderful omega-3 fatty acids that are naturally anti-inflammatory in the body.”

In particular, studies have shown that these omega-3 fatty acids help support normal inflammatory responses, which are an important immune mechanism-you want a balanced immune response that strike intruders, but you don’t want it to be overexerted.
